Loan Policy
The regular loan period for books is three weeks, and can be renewed twice if needed.
Please phone the library to renew materials, request a renewal on your next visit, or login to My Account on our Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).
Materials borrowed from other libraries through inter-library loan may be renewable one time, please contact us before your original due date to request if possible.
Ask the staff to place a hold on any circulating item or login to My Account on our OPAC and search our catalogue and place a hold yourself there.
DVD Loans
Movies, documentaries, historical productions, biographies, and self-help videos are available in DVD formats in each branch.
The loan period is one week.
Overdue Fines
If you have kept your library materials longer than the loan period, we would appreciate a donation in support of the library.
Returning Materials
Books may be returned in the book drops at each library. Virden has an exterior metal book return box. McAuley has a return box in their entryway. Elkhorn has a return slot at the front of their building.
Please do not return DVDs or Audiobooks in Virden’s outside book box. They can be damaged by the cold, or by heavy books falling on them. These items should be returned to the main desk during regular library hours.
Damaged or Lost Materials
A repair charge will be levied on the borrower for books willfully or accidently damaged as a result of improper use or carelessness.
Borrowers are liable up to the replacement cost of any books not returned for any reason. The borrower’s signature on the membership card validates a credit agreement between the borrower and the library, whereby, in the event that library books, DVDs or audiobooks are not returned, a value equivalent to the replacement value of the books, DVDs or audiobooks shall be paid in cash or by donation of books approved by the librarian.
